HEAVEN WORSHIPING ALTAR

Đàn Kính Thiên (Heaven Worshipping Altar)

Heaven Worshipping Altar was historically the site where emperors of Hoa Lu conducted sacred rituals to honor Heaven and Earth, praying for peace and prosperity for the nation. It is regarded as the spiritual heart of Ui Valley. As one of the most sacred spaces in Trang An – Ninh Binh, the site was believed by ancient people to be where Heaven bestows blessings, Saints reside, and the Buddha bears witness, where Heaven, Earth, and Humanity harmoniously converge. This profound connection between humans and the cosmos is expressed through its unique architectural symbolism of a round Heaven and square Earth. The motif of a dragon holding a pearl represents peace and good fortune for all who visit, offering prayers for favorable seasons throughout Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, abundant harvests, and happiness and prosperity for every family.

At the Heaven Worshipping Altar in Ui Valley, visitors will encounter many natural murals shaped by Heaven, Earth, and the divine imbued with a profound sacred energy. The mural before you evokes the image of a cascading waterfall flowing down terraced fields, graceful like a living ink-wash painting. This imagery carries a message from nature itself: Heaven bestows the land, water nourishes the earth, allowing humans to have food to sustain life, medicinal herbs for healing, and a peaceful place to dwell. Within this harmony, humans stand at the center - the bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. These sacred natural murals are not only meant to be admired, but also serve as a reminder for each of us to cherish, preserve, and protect nature, so that this sacred balance may endure for generations to come.
